OKX Shield Arrives in the U.S., Adding Up to $500,000 in Account Protection
By Roshan Robert, CEO of OKX U.S.
Today, we bring OKX Shield to the U.S.: up to $500,000 in account protection in the event of an account breach, no subscription or activation fee. We're taking greater responsibility for customer protection, and putting our own money behind it.
Fraud is a financial-system problem, not a crypto problem
In the U.S., the FTC reported $12.5 billion in total fraud losses in 2024, up 25% on the prior year. Banks haven't eliminated fraud after decades of trying. The question is whether crypto platforms are prepared to raise the standard of protection customers deserve. We think the answer has to be yes.
Up to $500,000 in added protection
OKX Shield gives customers financial support if an unauthorized third party takes over their account and transfers their assets. Every eligible U.S. customer gets up to $100,000 in protection simply by activating Shield's security settings, no extra charge, no VIP tier required. Protection rises to $250,000 for VIP 1 to 3, and $500,000 for qualifying VIP 4+ customers.
Activating your protection
Enable a passkey, switch on large withdrawal protection, block web withdrawals, and turn on transaction verification. Shield also checks your linked devices for malware, rooting, or jailbreaking, and walks you through fixing anything that needs it. Keep the safeguards in place, and protection stays active.
What it covers, and what it doesn't
Shield is built for account takeovers: someone else gaining unauthorized control and moving assets out, through phishing, malware, or a SIM swap. It's not deposit insurance, and it doesn't cover transactions a customer makes or approves themselves, even under deception. Digital assets and bank deposits sit under different legal frameworks, we're not claiming otherwise. Customers shouldn't have to wait for crypto to close that gap before getting meaningfully better protection today. Full terms are in the OKX Shield Terms and Conditions.
Regulation sets a minimum, not a finish line. We think security should be one of the places crypto companies compete hardest, and we're backing that with our own funds.
